Delta Hotels: A Canadian Hotel Management Success Story
Founded in 1962 in Richmond, British Columbia, Delta Hotels has grown from a single 62-room motor inn to become Canada's leading first-class hotel management company.
Today, we boast a diversified portfolio of 40 city-centre, airport and resort properties, and distinguish ourselves as the brand of choice for discerning owners and guests, an exemplary employer to more than 7,000 people and an active corporate citizen.

Going beyond salary and benefits
Noted for progressive employee service guarantees, Delta Hotels continues to maintain one of the lowest employee turnover rates in the hotel industry. We guarantee employees, for example, that they will receive their performance review within one month of their anniversary or receive one week's pay. We also offer an employee and family assistance program, as well as countless career development opportunities.
The prestigious National Quality Institute (NQI) has honoured Delta Hotels with two Canada Awards for Excellence. We were the first hotel company in the institute's history to be granted this award in 2000 for quality, and were recognized again in 2004 for our healthy workplace. Similar to the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award in the United States, this distinction is Canada's top recognition for organizational excellence in the areas of leadership, performance, planning, and customer-, people- and supplier-focused operations.
We have also been recognized as one of "The 50 Best Employers in Canada" by The Globe and Mail's respected magazine, Report on Business (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005).

A tradition of leadership and vision
As a company, our history is one marked by leadership and vision. After becoming the leading hotel operator in British Columbia by 1970, our company embarked upon an aggressive eastward expansion strategy. By 1975, we had opened the Delta Chelsea in downtown Toronto - with 1,590 rooms, the largest hotel in Canada, and still the largest in our portfolio - and in 1977, the Delta Ottawa Hotel and Suites was added in the nation's capital.
New properties were added to our portfolio throughout the 1980s, notably in Atlantic Canada and Quebec, and while ownership changed in 1987, this pace of rapid expansion and revitalization continued throughout the 1990s.
In 1998, Delta Hotels became a wholly owned subsidiary of the former Canadian Pacific (CP) Hotels Limited, shedding its international properties and refocusing on its Canadian portfolio. One year later, six former CP hotels joined the Delta family. We are now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Inc., North America's largest operator of luxury hotels and resorts.
As an innovator, we can proudly claim a number of firsts. We were among the first to offer a chain-wide family program and children's creative centres. For frequent guests, we introduced Delta Privilege, our signature guest recognition program, in 1989. That program's hallmark and most enduring feature - the famous "One Minute Check-In Guarantee" - is another industry first. Unmatched by the competition then or now, it guarantees members that they will be checked in within one minute, or the first night of their stay will be free. Not far behind was Delta Works, a loyalty program for small to mid-size businesses.

Delta Cares
Our spirited employees take great pride in supporting the communities in which they live and work. Each year, we take up the cause of many worthwhile charities, recognizing that through our own unique efforts we are enriching our own lives as well as those of our neighbours.
Whether it is to enrich the lives of Special Olympians through sport, to provide reusable goods like furniture and bedding to an abused woman who is taking those first steps to reestablish herself and her family, or to offer complimentary accommodation to families caring for hospitalized relatives over the holidays, we believe that the most noble benefit can be found through the simple act of giving.

Looking Ahead
|
While much may have changed over the course of our history, the fundamentals of hospitality have remained constant. The same values of honesty, integrity, teamwork and empowerment that formed the core of our business in 1962 continue to guide us today.
